    Default 5.7 in '87 W100

New revision on an old project. I did have a carburated 5.9 Magnum in my old 87 W100, but I pulled it out this spring to replace the tired 360 in my 53 Fargo, so my old truck has been sitting with no motor in it. Few weeks ago I bought an 05 car hemi engine with 47k miles on it that I was planning on putting in a 47 dodge, but the deal fell thru on that truck, so I figure I may as well put it in my W100 for the winter.

I'm completely old school, and to keep costs down I plan on running this engine carburated, and keep my 727 behind it. Bought a MSD Hemi 6 for the ignition, and an SFI flex plate. In looking for intakes, there isn't much available that will play nice with a carb. The XV, OCP, and Mopar single planes have really short runners so that will kill my low end torque, and I really don't want to run dual quads, so that ruled out the Edelbrock. I really do like the Drag Pac, and Ritter high rise intakes, but I can't justify close to $1000 (CAD) right now for thoes intakes. So my plan is that I am going to laser cut the flanges I need, and build myself a sheet metal intake. I don't have a tig at my home shop, so it will be mig only but I'll make do. Plan on doing this over my Christmas holidays so interested to see how I make out.

    Goodies so far:

Started working on designing my manifold. Got the car intake off to use as a template for flanges I need. This is just to give me the rough idea, as I will free hand most of the fabrication. The oil fill location in the manifold is a pain. Debating modding a valve cover to put it in a more traditional place.

Made a little progress this afternoon. Starting to look like an intake manifold.

Got to work on it a little today. Got the motor mounted in the truck and just figuring out what all I have to modify for clearances. Will have to shorten the car heater tubes, and notch the engine crossmember pretty good to clear the oil filter. Other than that should just be building motor mounts and carry on.

Also picked up a new project vehicle today. 04 Hemi Durango AWD. Got this truck cheap, and just plan on it for spare parts and the drivetrain. Crazy I now will have 4 gen 3 hemi's!!!!

The hemi powered W100 lives!!!! Got it installed an wired enough to try and fire it up, and after giving the carb a couple squirts it fired up almost instantly. Can't do much more that for now as there is no exhaust manifolds on it nor cooling system. Feels damn good to see my work coming together.

Open heads in my garage are damn loud and after giving it throttle a couple times I have a good ringing in my ears. Well worth it though.

Congrats man, it had to feel great when she came to life!! I would be real interested to see what you did for motor mounts for the ol girl if you find some time and have a camera in hand.
