well i noticed this yesterday the first two days of driving with the headlights or hids on i had the a/c going. well the other night i turned off the a/c and thats when the flickering started. I remembered coley (yes coley) saying something about a cam being a factor. Well when i first start up the truck and its idling around 850 or so the light do not flicker. When the truck has warmed up and is idling like it should with a cam the light show starts. Then i turn on the a/c and the lights go to normal.
Im thinking with the under drive pulley moving accessories slower that my alternator is not producing juice to keep the lights powered. But other then that it could be a bad ballast.
The lamp out light is on i dont know if that has anything to do with it

HID's use less power than halogen bulbs...but are a bit more "sensitive" to power surges.

well with my cam and set up there is no way to make them work on my truck from what i am beginning to understand

If the cam is surging and the alternator is running slower, then I believe it....
But if you got a smoother idle from it and a smaller aternator pulley you should be fine.
Hemiloredo has a KRC210x and HIDs and I've never noticed his flickering...but he doesn't have the underdrive yet.

u/d will make a difference. alternator will turn slower.
I have the stock lights and they don't flicker, but they do dim at idle.
my idle is set low @ 500 rpm. lights did not dim @ 500 rpm with the stock crank pulley.

i think it has something to do with the hid kit honestly. ive got the comp 268 with 25% ud pulley and mine work fine

cam/pulley shouldnt be your problem. i had the flickering problem so the place i got the hid's from sent me in-line resistors. problem solved

i did the resistors
some 6 v 50 ohm resistor thats when i got flickering
before i had resistor it strobed
the lights stays on but it looks like its in a pool of water

my idle is at 700
ill have to check my volts
ive had two different kits and they both worked fine, twiggy kit and one from cbren with the retrofitted projector headlights
