"Made from 356-T6 cast aluminum, these girdles incorporate a reinforced crossbar. The crossbar houses the load bolts that apply pressure to the bearing caps. This feature, along with the thick casting, prevents bearing cap deflection under severe loads. Which in turn greatly reduces or eliminates (in most cases) bearing cap fatigue and failure. "

thanks I read that too I just don't understand how that works. So does the cover actually bolt to the bearing caps?

No, they don't bolt to the bearing cap.
They put a little pressure on the bearing cap.
When you go WOT, the pinion gear tries to twist the ring gear sideways in the housing. That pushes on the carrier/ bearing caps. With a high enough shock it can brake the bearing cap.
Usually the first thing that happens is the ring gear brakes a tooth from mis-alignment under load.
I've seen a few dent's in the back of a housing from the caps failing. 9 out of 10 times it's on the starting line.

so is this something that is aimed more at heavily modded trucks, or would it be helpful on a heads/cam/exhaust truck? I assume it's not good for any time in the 1/4, but rather for the durability of your driveline...right?
