I cut this design out in heavy guage sheet metal and I plan on welding it in the center of my tailgate, then painting it all one color to give it an "embossed" look.
I plan on drilling a bunch of holes in it and plug welding it all over. Just looking for ideas and pointers on how to do this best, like sealing the edges. I can't find any information on doing this. (usually how my ideas start, then turn into a big mess)

just an idea...por15 the emblem...drill holes in tailgate only....if you can access it from the inside....plug weld it that way???
how do you plan to paint it...different color than tailgate?

That's a good idea. trace it onto the tailgate and drill holes in the tailgate toward the outside edge.
I'm painting the whole tailgate flat black, just spraying over the tailgate and emblem like it wasn't even there. Monochrome.

Then why not use an automotive adhesive?

I'd rather if you think it would hold.

If prepped well, it wouldn't ever come off without some serious trying.

Good info. I'll have to search the net for a small tube.

Panel bond. Only trouble, the gun to use it is big money

Clean the parts with rubbing alcohol and use commercial 3M double sided tape. (not the civilian foam tape) As it has the thickness of packing tape will need to match the contour of the tailgate perfectly. Once you do it will take a crow bar and a new tailgate to get it off.
