4.56 r n but had a problem

i put my gears in this week and had a problem when im going forward there is no whine coming from the rear but when i slow down with no brake they do whine i hit the brake the sound goes away

i painted the gear and spun it by hand and every spot on the paint was even on the front side of the gear

so i know the whine is coming from the back side of the gearshould i tighten up the rear or loosen it up

i have a dtt with motive 4.56 and master install kit

does it sound like a gear whine or could it possibly be the brakes

Did you spin the pinion gear over a couple times after you got your initial specs for backlash? If you don't the carrier can get cocked and when you torque it you will not know but it will shift when put under load effectively fucking the procedure up. What did you set your backlash to? .008?

Also what was the rotating torque on the pinion gear?

i did .09 it said between .06 and .09 in the manual

the guy helping me said it would best at .09

Was it .009 BEFORE you torque the threaded adjusters, AND after you rotated the pinon gear several times? What did you torque the threaded adjusters to? Did you check what the rotating torque is of the pinon gear? It should be somewhere in the .010 area if i am correct.

the guy helping me is good very througho mechanic i got 2 miles on the gears im sure there fine taking it apart with him tomorrow to make some adjustments and go from there

IIRC Jason set my backlash at .008 new, and reset it to .008 when I later swapped to a TT with the used gear set

Pinion depth is normally the cause of gear wine.

That's the reason I hate crush sleeve pinion installs. It's hard to get bearing preload correct along with depth. If your off by a couple thousands,,, this is what you get.

they are in and find i got the wear pattern in the center of the gears and its good to go

i drove it down the road brought it back took the cover off and double checked it so its good on both sides of the gear now just need to break them in

now i have to work another 5 hours before rain hits
