So does anyone think this setup will work better than using my 295/50/20 at the track?
215/40/17 Nitto's Front, 295/45/17 MT DR Rear.
I know it look's dumb as hell but i really would like to get into the 12's this year. Also filled my zex bottle today, just need to finish wiring it up and had my dual e-cutouts re-installed. If the weathers good this weekend and the track is open id at least like to get into the 13's. Also has a Edge 2800 billet stall installed two days ago.
If nothing else these front tires should be easier to turn with the short belt on at the track. This set up will be for track use only.

Bought the wheels in NC from a DT member about 7 months ago while i was still deployed, got the DR's off DT about 8 months ago and i picked up the front tires today while getting my bottle filled and cutout welded on.

Why such a short front tire???

I got a good deal on them, the tires that came on the 17's were taller than my 20's so it was either run the 20's or get something cheap that would be light and level out the truck a little with the DR's on the rear. I'll air them up good to try to get as little of a patch as i can in the front and let out some air in the rear tires to make sure they have some good grip. I'll have to play around with the air pressure to see what works, i want a nice even patch on the ground.

I by mistake got a set of short z rated tires for my fronts last year. I think after a trip to the track I will get a tad taller tire. I think at the light with such a small tire you have less forgivness from the staging beam.
Just a slight jump on the light for me was a redlight.
This year Im gona make my changes to the trucks front runners and not change the way I stage. " Good info from Dan Peoples":D

215/65/17 folks, they should be readily available cheap and used as they are what comes on the base LX cars. Skinny and "tall"...perfect for our frontrunners IMO.

Do you really want the front sitting that high with only 295/45/17 on the rear?
Just wondering if it makes a differance if the front is higher or lower than the rear. Looking for some track proven results. I got the 215/40/17s cheap so i wouldnt mind ditching them for something better if they might be hurting me at the track.

215/65/17 measures out to 28.0
295/45/17 measures out to 27.5
that would put the front "up" only 1/4 of an inch...
I also think it would help a bit with the weight transfer to not have your nose digging into the ground so much.

The short tires will help you cut a better light, just be careful because like ramcrazy said it's also easier to get a red light. I think your wheel/tire combo will work pretty well, shorter front tires make for less mph but a better e.t

I adjust my reaction times by using different height front tires, depends on track. I use either a 185 M&h front runner or my regular st. tires.
Height of front tire also will change your et's some. A taller front tire will give me a running start on lite.
Yes, I am "heavy' on my 185's! Even drive on street with track set-up.
To each his own!:D

did you race today?
NO, if you are talking to me. WE have new owners of local track and don't open till March. They are having a big opening March 6. I will be on my way to race in the TMCCC at Texas Raceway on Sunday.
The new owners have gone to AHRA, and I may be to slow to race in their money class. BFD, I intend to race more in the TMCCC this year.
March is a busy month for me. First two weekends is TMCCC and than March 26-28 I will race at Vegas in their MOPAR race.
Roughly, I will be traveling 2900-3000 miles to race next month!
